Characteristics of the organisation



The Unanderra Community Centre is a local community (committee) run organisation. The steering committee is UFARA (Unanderra & Figtree Area Residents Association).

 

A Community Development Worker is employed by the centre to co-ordinate activities and Youth Worker co-ordinates the Youth Project. Both are helped by volunteers.

 

The centre provides a variety of activities and services to the residents of the surrounding suburbs of Unanderra, Figtree, Mount Kembla, Coachwood Park, Cordeaux Heights and Farmborough Heights.


Unanderra Figtree Area Resident Association Incorporated aims to provide:

·         Personal and practical services to members of the community.

·         Programs and activities that aim to enhance quality of life for local residents.

·         Consultations with all sections of the local community when assessing needs and development of future programs or activities.


Unanderra Area Resident Forum Association will ensure that its operations will meet the following standards:

a) Equitable participation of people from non-English speaking backgrounds, women, aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, young people and people with a disability are encouraged in all aspect of project operations.

b) Improvement in the overall lifestyle for residents in Unanderra and Figtree and surrounding areas through participation in community campaigns and provision of optimal service.

c) To encourage and promote community development and the use of existing facilities and services in the Unanderra Figtree Area.

d) To provide facilities to the community in such a way that this provision enables a fee to be set which is within the means of potential users of the Centre.
